A PhD position is available in the newly created "Discrete Optimization" group at TU Berlin ( with ties to the "Combinatorial Optimization and Graph Algorithms" group ( The successful applicant will participate in the Math+ research project ?Information Design for Bayesian Networks? that is concerned with information design and mechanism design approaches for congestion games with applications to urban traffic modeling and improvement.

Candidates should have an excellent academic degree in mathematics, computer science or a related area, and must have very good knowledge in discrete mathematics and/or algorithm theory. Basic knowledge of probabilities and/or game theory is helpful. Good communication skills and solid English writing skills are expected. Profound knowledge of optimization and related areas are desirable. Teaching experience (e.g., as a student assistant) is of advantage.

Besides its many cultural attractions, Berlin offers a strong scientific landscape including three major universities, the DFG funded mathematics research center MATH+ ([ as well as the internation graduate program Berlin Mathematical School ([; these offer opportunities for joint research and support for PhD students (e.g., meetings, lecture series, international summer schools etc.).
