Description
A PhD position is available in Operations Research at the University of Bologna, Italy

Title: optimization algorithms for Integrated Planning of Multi-Energy Systems

Supervisors: prof. Daniele Vigo, prof. Michele Monaci

Topics: The student will mainly work on optimization problems arising in multi-energy systems, with special emphasis on the design and implementation of efficient decomposition algorithms for the solution of large-scale problems.

These activities will be developed within project PlaMES (Integrated Planning of Multi-Energy Systems) that has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 863922".

The student will be enrolled for 3 years in the Automatic Control and Operational Research curriculum of the IBES PhD programme at the University of Bologna, see https://phd.unibo.it/ibes/en

Skills: The PhD candidate is expected to perform scientific research on combinatorial problems in the field energy optimization.

Applicants should demonstrate good programming skills and good knowledge in solution methods for combinatorial optimization problems. Applicants should have completed (or close to completion of) a master degree in operations research, computer science, mathematics, related engineering domains or other affine domains.

Deadline: applications will start presumably on April 20, 2020 and must be electronically submitted within two or three weeks (closing of the applications will presumably be on May 15th). The PhD selection is performed in June and the activities will start in October/November.

We strongly suggest the interested people to directly contact prof. Daniele Vigo (daniele.vigo@unibo.it) and prof. Michele Monaci (michele.monaci@unibo.it) for more details.
