Optimization, Prescriptive Analytics, and Decision Making under Uncertainty
Position: We are seeking to recruit one or two Ph.D. candidates to work under the supervision of Dr. Miguel Lejeune starting in Fall 2024. The selected candidate(s) will join the Ph.D. program of the Decision Sciences Department of the George Washington School of Business.
Contingent on research interests, the selected student(s) will have the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Lejeune’s research group involving faculty, postdoctoral students, and other Ph.D. students from the School of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering) and the Business School (Decision Sciences).
The selected Ph.D. students(s) will work on projects related to optimization, decision-making under uncertainty, and prescriptive and predictive analytics, and with applications to energy, health care, and logistics. Ongoing and possible applied research projects would involve the use of drones to deliver emergency medical supplies (drug overdoses, cardiac arrests), the use of mobile power sources to restore and reinforce the resilience of power grids, or the design of preventive models to hedge against the risk of wildfires.
Support: The funding will cover full tuition fees, monthly salary, and health benefits for five years, assuming that the student(s) fulfill(s) the requirements of the Ph.D. program.

Eligibility and Conditions: The candidate(s) is/are expected to have a degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, or closely related discipline, and should be interested in optimization, operations research, analytics, and/or applied mathematics.
Applicants with computer programming (coding) skills, strong interest in optimization, and/or research experience will be given higher priority.
