Working field:
The position requires research and teaching and an internationally visible profile in the area of Discrete Optimization.
The research focus of the position is expected to be a branch of Discrete Optimization at the interface with the area of Algorithms for Big Data. Furthermore, co-operations with the current professors at the Institute of Mathematics as well as participation in existing and future collaborative research projects of all mathematical institutes in Berlin (Research Center MATHEON, Einstein Center for Mathematics Berlin, Berlin Mathematical School etc.) are expected.
Teaching will be required in all mathematical degree programs and moderately in the service teaching of mathematics for other programs. Teaching requirements shall be met in German and English. Candidates are expected to supervise students‘ theses as well as to participate in the academic administration of the university.

Requirements:
Successful applicants must fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professor level in compliance with § 102a BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a completed academic education in mathematics or a comparable subject, qualified achievements in research and a particular qualification for academic work normally attested by the excellent quality of a PhD, and pedagogical didactic qualifications, to be proven by teaching experience and visualized in a teaching portfolio (for further information see TUB Website, quick as no. 144242).
Internationally visible research results in the area of Discrete Optimization have to be proven through relevant publications. Experience in acquiring and carrying out projects and project alliances involving third-party funding are desirable.

PostDoc position (TV-L 13) in Algorithms/Mechanism Design/Optimization.
For two years starting December 1, 2016, or later.

A PostDoc position is available in the project "Optimization under Informational and Strategic Uncertainty". The objective of the project is to develop methods for solving problems incorporating both strategic behaviour and uncertainty. The project is funded within the programme "Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellow" by the Einstein Foundation Berlin. Additional funds for travelling, guests and workshops are provided by the Einstein Foundation. The position will be part of the new Operations Research Group at the Department of Economics of the Humboldt University Berlin.

Candidates should have an excellent PhD in mathematics, computer science or a related area. There are no teaching requirements but good communication and English skills are necessary.

Besides its many cultural attractions, Berlin offers a strong scientific landscape including three major universities, the research center MATHEON, and the Einstein Center for Mathematics; these offer opportunities for joint research and support (e.g., meetings, lecture series, summer schools etc.).

The Algorithms team in the Department of Computer Science at Bristol University is looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher in the areas of algorithms research and/or time and space lower bounds. The post will require a high level of expertise in areas which may include but not be limited to algorithms, discrete probability, discrete mathematics and combinatorics.

Our current work focuses on algorithms and lower bounds for streaming and dynamically changing data however we also have a broader interest in other aspects of algorithms/theory research.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in theoretical computer science (“Track A”) or closely related mathematical area together with a strong track record of international publications in algorithms or

The Optimisation and Logistics group at the School of Computer Science, The University of Adelaide, Australia, has an open position for a postdoctoral researcher working within the ARC Discovery Project "Bio-inspired Computing for Problems with Dynamically Changing Constraints”.

This is a fixed term position for 12 months (available immediately) and starting date is negotiable. Starting salary is 80,881 AUD per annum (plus superannuation).

We are seeking an excellent candidate with a PhD in mathematics, theoretical computer science, or applied algorithmics. The successful applicant should carry out theoretical and applied work on evolutionary algorithms, ant colony optimisation, and related bio-inspired computing methods. Candidates having experiences in the field of randomised methods, bio-inspired computing for dynamic problems and/or computational complexity of bio-inspired computation are highly encouraged to apply.

The Faculty of Military Sciences (FMS) of the NLDA provides academic courses at Bachelor level (BSc) and, starting from 2017, also provides the Master (MSc) program ‘Military Technology, Processes and Systems’. In addition, academic research is conducted for the benefit of knowledge development, innovation and policy support. The teaching and research of the Department of Military Technology (MTW) of the NLDA focuses on technology, operational deployment and maintenance of military systems.

Job description
- Conducts research within programs in the areas of (optimal) deployment of systems and technology, for example, in the field of 'critical infrastructure protection’. Combinatorial optimization and simulation plays an important role.
- Provides lectures on Operations Research, with the focus on operational deployment and logistics of military systems. He / she supervises students at graduation projects in this field.
- Contributes to the development and teaching in the Master's program in the area of (combinatorial) optimization and simulation.
- Contributes to the continuous renewal of education in the light of technical education and technical developments.
- Contributes to the management of the department.

Job requirements
- PhD, with a focus on Applied Mathematics of Operations Research.
- Publishes in international scientific journals and has an academic network.
- Good teaching skills and experience / affinity with education. Preferably, candidates have basic teaching qualifications (BKO).
- Good oral and written communication skills in Dutch and English.
- A safety investigation is part of the selection procedure.

The Algorithms and Complexity Group of IDSIA, University of Lugano (Switzerland), opens one Ph.D. position in the area of approximation algorithms. The position is supported by the SNSF Grant "Approximation Algorithms for Network Problems", that already supports another Ph.D. student and one PostDoc.

The position is for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension by 1 year (subject to approval by SNSF). The gross salary is roughly 50.000 CHF per year (low taxes). There is generous travel support.

The ideal candidate should be bright and creative, and hold (or be close to obtaining) a Master Degree in Computer Science or related areas. A solid background in Algorithms, Computational Complexity, Discrete Mathematics, Probability Theory, and/or Graph Theory is helpful. A good knowledge of written and spoken English is also required (while knowledge of Italian is not needed).

Team members will have the opportunity to cooperate with the Algorithms and Complexity group at IDSIA, which currently consists of
8 researchers. IDSIA offers an international working environment.

At the Institute for Numerical and Applied Mathematics (Optimization Group) at the University of Goettingen a PhD position is available in the project "Demand robust arrangement of operating units and equipment by combining optimization and simulation" funded by the Simulation Science Center Clausthal/Goettingen starting at the 1.11.2016 (or as soon as possible). The position (TV-L 13, 75%) is available for two years with the option of an extension of one year.

The subproject focuses on the development and implementation of exact solution approaches for facility layout problems. These approaches will be tested by and compared with a simulation model developed by our project partner at the University of Clausthal.
